This policy explains what information Fork'n Freezer ("we", "us", "the Service", available at forknfreezer.com) collects, how we use it, and the choices you have. By using the Service you agree to this policy. Questions? Email hello@forknfreezer.com.

The short version: we collect what's needed to run your kitchen inventory — your email, the household data you create, and the photos you take to catalog your food. We use trusted AI providers to read those photos and suggest recipes. We don't sell your personal information. You can delete your data at any time.

1. Information we collect

Account information — the email address you register with, a securely hashed password, and your household name. If you join an existing household, we record which household you belong to.
Your kitchen content — the items, quantities, locations, expiration dates, notes, shopping lists, saved recipes, and (optionally) wine cellar entries you add, plus the photos you take of your food, shelves, fridge, pantry, product labels, or recipes.
Notifications — if you enable push reminders, the browser push subscription needed to send them to your device.
Basic technical data — standard server logs (e.g. IP address and request time) used for security, rate-limiting, and reliability.
Feedback — anything you send us through the in-app feedback form.

2. How we use your information

To provide the Service: cataloging your items from photos, keeping your inventory and shopping lists, sharing them with your household, and sending the reminders you turn on.
To generate AI features you request: identifying items in a photo, suggesting meals from what you have, writing full recipes, reading recipe labels, and reading steps aloud.
To operate, secure, and improve the Service (troubleshooting, preventing abuse, understanding aggregate usage).
To contact you about your account (for example, email verification and password resets).

3. AI processing & service providers

To deliver core features we share the minimum necessary data with trusted third-party providers who process it on our behalf:

AI vision & recipes — photos and text you submit for scanning, recipe ideas, or label reading are sent to our AI provider (xAI / Grok) to produce the result.
Read-aloud — recipe text you choose to hear is sent to our text-to-speech provider (OpenAI) to generate the audio.
Email delivery — transactional emails (verification, password reset) are sent through our email provider (Resend).
Hosting — the Service and its data are hosted on cloud infrastructure (DigitalOcean).
Advertising — if ads are shown, Google AdSense may set cookies and process ad-related data under Google's own privacy policy.

These providers act as our processors and are not permitted to use your content for their own unrelated purposes. We do not control, and are not responsible for, their independent practices; please review their policies for details.

4. What we do not do

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use your photos or household data to advertise to you.

5. Data retention & deletion

We keep your information for as long as your account is active. You can delete individual items, photos, and recipes in the app at any time. To delete your account and associated data, email hello@forknfreezer.com and we will remove it. Backups are retained for a short period before being overwritten.

6. Your choices & rights

Access or correct most of your data directly in the app.
Turn push notifications on or off at any time in Settings or your device.
Request a copy or deletion of your data by emailing us.
Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights (such as under GDPR or CCPA); contact us to exercise them.

7. Cookies

We use a single essential cookie to keep you signed in. If advertising is enabled, Google AdSense may set additional cookies as described in Google's policies.

8. Children

The Service is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.

9. Security

We use reasonable measures to protect your data, including encrypted connections (HTTPS) and hashed passwords. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the "Last updated" date above and, where appropriate, by notice in the app.
